Mystery cross
(Puzzle 027)
Do you know where this cross comes from?
Flowers and birds
This is a budded cross decorated with flowers, the leaves of which are like fern fronds.
It is the centrepiece of regalia, presumably designed for wearing around the neck. The black velvet ribbon is festooned with small flowers, stars and birds.
The cross measures 6.2 cm in height and 4.9 cm in width. The back of the cross is exactly the same as the front, suggesting it might have been designed as costume jewellery and later adopted for the black regalia.
We didn't know if it was just pretty costume jewellery, had some Masonic association, or something else. Then Alex kindly pointed us in the right direction (as he often does!)
