The Sacrament of Marriage is a solemn and public covenant between a baptized man and woman in the presence of God.
Marriage is celebrated in the presence of the Bishop, the Pastor, or a priest or deacon delegated by either of them. The Canon Law and Diocesan norms regarding the celebration of marriage are to be observed.
It is desirable that the Lessons from the Old Testament and the Epistles be read by lay persons.
In the opening exhortation (at the symbol of ), the full names of the persons to be married are declared. Subsequently, only their Christian names are used.
