When There's Love At Home
Japanese version
Although the song is old, it is still popular and used at Western-style wedding ceremonies in Japan. The rather sombre-sounding 'chorus' is omitted, and John Hugh McNaughton's words, written in 1860, were translated in 1890 as:
Imose o chigiru, ie no uchi
Waga Shu mo tomo ni, itamai te
Chichi naru Kami no, mimune ni nareru
Iwai no mushiro, shukushima se
Imashi mimae ni, tachi narabi
Musubu chigiri wa, kawara ji na
Yachiyo mo tomo ni, tasuke isoshimi
Magokoro tsukushi, Shu ni tsukaen
Ai no ishizue, kataku sue
Heiwa no hashira, naoku tate
Kami no mimegumi, tsune ni ooeba
Saiwai ie ni, taezara nan
Kiyoki imose no, majiwari wa
Nagusame towa ni, tsukiseji na
Omoni mo sachi mo, tomo ni wakachi te
Yorokobi susume, Shu no michi ni

John Hugh McNaughton 1829-1901
