It is very meet, right, and our bounden duty, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto thee, O Lord, holy Father, almighty, everlasting God; who didst will that thine only-begotten Son, hanging upon the cross, should be pierced by the spear of a soldier; that his Heart, manifest as the shrine of thy heavenly bounty, might pour forth for us floods of grace and of compassion: and that, since it hath never ceased to burn for us with ardent longing, it might be the resting place of them that love thee, and the ever open refuge of safety for the penitent.
